The Electrical Women's Round Table (EWRT) began suddenly in 1923 because of seven women employed in the relatively young and growing electrical industry.
they first met when they attended the historically all male annual meeting of the Society of Electrical Development. They were the only females invited. they were invited because they either were on the society's staff, worked for manufacturers or were writers within the industry or for the growing electrical trade press.
Within 2 years, 50 women were involved in the EWRT sessions. In 1927, the group formally organized, they filed for and received a Certificate of Incorporation from the State of New York for The Electrical Women's Round Table, Inc. The group continued to meet in New York City, and membership continued to be drawn from the New York City metropolitan area.
In September 1948, the revised Bylaws were formally adopted licensing of chapters. Thus the Chairman of the New York Chapter automatically became the first president of the national organization.
